Napier breaks boundaries record in Twenty20 Cup
25/06/2008
Essex all-rounder Graham Napier has broken the world record for the number of sixes in a single innings after hitting 16 in his amazing 152 not out against Sussex.
The 28-year-old all-rounder blazed the visiting bowlers to all parts of the ground at Chelmsford as his side won by a mammoth 128 runs.
Napier, who was a World Cup winner with the England under-19s in 1998, took just 58 deliveries on his way to the record-breaking Twenty20 Cup innings.
It is the second-highest of all time in world cricket behind New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum's 158 not out from 73 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
The score sets a new record in English Twenty20 cricket, however, beating the previous best of 141 not out from 70 deliveries by Somerset's Cameron White in 2006.
Napier's strike rate was an incredible 262, including ten fours, and represents a huge improvement on his previous best innings in Twenty20, which was just 48 not out.
