Notts rule out Twenty20 appeal

Nottinghamshire have ruled out an appeal against the decision to exclude them from the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals in favour of Glamorgan.

The Welsh county will play Durham in the last-eight encounter after Yorkshire were forced to give up their place in the knockout stages after fielding an ineligible player, Azeem Rafiq, in a group match.

Yorkshire successfully appealed the initial decision to strip them of their place in the competition, where they would have been replaced by Nottinghamshire.

But instead the disciplinary panel docked the team two points – effectively eliminating them from the group and allowing Glamorgan to qualify instead.

However, Nottinghamshire have now confirmed there will be no appeal by them after they were initially reinstated last week before being told yesterday that they would not play in the quarter-finals after all.

"It has been a very challenging process for all involved but we accept the findings of the panel and wish all sides well after what has been a very difficult week for cricket," said Notts chief executive Derek Brewer.

"When the original ruling was made, we were mindful that there would be an appeal and that any thoughts of a place in the quarter-finals were perhaps premature.

"We made our representation to the panel, as did the other counties involved, and although disappointed we respect the ruling."

Brewer added there is "no mechanism for appeal" and said the timeframe involved, which will see finals day at the Rose Bowl taking place in less than two weeks, means any appeal would be difficult to assess and rule upon in order to allow sufficient time to reschedule the quarter-final with Durham anyway.

"It is important that a line is ruled under this issue and we pursue success in the county championship and the Pro40," he added.
