ODIs now under threat for Flintoff
27/05/2008
Andrew Flintoff may not be fit for the one-day series against New Zealand, it has emerged.
The Lancashire all-rounder was disappointed to have been ruled out of the three-Test series against the Black Caps after picking up a side strain while playing against Durham on May 9th.
Now he has admitted enduring a difficult week of recuperation from the injury and is a question-mark for the five-match ODI series, which begins at the Riverside on June 15th.
Flintoff visited the England dressing room during the second Test at Old Trafford, his county home, and admitted being especially disappointed by his absence on the field there.
"I went down there on Friday and had lunch in one of the boxes and I wasn't enjoying it, to be honest. We were playing a Test on my home ground and I wasn't involved," he said.
"There's a lot of people in there anyway without me being there so I did a bit of physio, stayed five or ten minutes and then popped out."
The 30-year-old feels especially frustrated because it comes after a year-long layoff due to a serious ankle injury. He had been bowling at full speed for Lancashire before the side-strain but, having had the Lord's Test to work towards, now finds himself without a definite target.
"There's nothing you can do and you have to have a bit of perspective on things because everything else is fine. I just have a dodgy side for a bit," he finished.
