Paceman Jones continues sparkling form for Worcester
01/06/2008
Simon Jones took four wickets to help Worcestershire beat Essex by 75 runs in Division Two of the County Championship at New Road.
Jones boosted his hopes of an England return after finishing with 4-41, while Kabir Ali took 4-64, as the visitors were bowled out for 264 in their second innings.
The home side had earlier been bowled out for 279 in their second innings, with Ben Smith making 71.
Elsewhere, Leicestershire crushed Glamorgan by an innings and 16 runs at Grace Road.
After being dismissed by 189 the Dragons were made to follow on, still 201 runs behind.
Glamorgan looked to be heading for another humiliating total when they were reduced to 46-7.
But a last-wicket stand of 94 by Alex Wharf (51 not out) and David Harrison, who whacked 64 off 27 balls, nearly forced the Foxes to bat again.
Harrison hit three sixes before falling to Dillon du Preez, who finished with match figures of 8-80.
Elsewhere, Gloucestershire's game with Warwickshire looks to be heading for a draw at Gloucester.
The visitors reached 399-8 at the close in the first innings, thanks to an unbeaten 141 from Tony Frost.
Yesterday, Gloucestershire were bowled out for 420 with Chris Taylor making 104 off 181 balls.
Elsewhere, a thrilling finish is in prospect at Lords in Derbyshire's clash with Middlesex.
The visitors were on 260-9 in their second innings at stumps, giving them a 242-run lead.
Derbyshire have their lower order to thank for keeping them in the game with Jonathan Clare unbeaten on 46 while Graham Wagg struck 41.
Earlier, the home side were all out for 262 with Ben Scott top-scoring with 66.
