Pietersen see England improvement
20/11/2008
Captain Kevin Pietersen has claimed his England side are improving on their India tour despite suffering a third consecutive defeat in the one-day series in Kanpur.
The middle-order batsman saw his side post another below-par total of 240 from their innings.
And in-form Yuvraj Singh (38), along with the influential Virender Sehwag (68), helped themselves to decent scores as India won via the Duckworth-Lewis when bad light stopped play with the home side ahead by 16 runs on 198-5.
However, Pietersen - whose side have now suffered five defeats in their last six limited-overs matches dating back to the Stanford Super Series - said he can see improvements are being made.
"We're getting better, the games are getting closer," he said.
"We had a real good chance when some of our batters got in, but it'd be nice for one of them to go on and get a good innings with a hundred."
Pietersen continued: "The boys came in and fought hard and showed aggression. We had a real good go at it.
"But we've got to start getting hundreds, we've got to get a lot more to be competitive out here."
