Remaining Twenty20 quarter-final confirmed
16/07/2008
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that the remaining Twenty20 quarter-final will be contested between Durham and Glamorgan.
The match will be played at the Riverside, Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday 22nd July meaning there will be no reserve day for the fixture.
Glamorgan have replaced Yorkshire in the quarter-finals because the Tykes fielded an ineligible player during the group stage of the competition, causing the original quarter-final between themselves and Durham to be cancelled.
Because Durham qualified as top seeds they were determined to play the fixture at home. Both Durham and Glamorgan are playing in the south of the country on Sunday so both sides agreed to schedule the fixture a day later than the ECB's original proposed date of Monday to allow time to travel.
Alan Fordham, head of operations, first class cricket, said: "The ECB are grateful for the assistance of both Durham and Glamorgan in agreeing to the arrangements around this game."
Although the match is due to start at 17:30 BST the ECB hope that the presence of floodlights will help get the match finished if the weather intervenes.
Following the late cancellation of the original quarter-final Durham have chosen to repay their fans by slashing ticket prices for the match with Glamorgan to £5, with the proceeds going to a range of charities.
Durham chief executive David Harker said: "We want to encourage as many people as possible to back the team in our quarter-final next week and to use it as an opportunity to support local charities."
The winner of the quarter-final will progress to finals day at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire, on 26th July to face Middlesex in the semi-final.
