Stanford T20 given green light

The money-spinning Stanford Twenty20 Super Series will go ahead as planned after an agreement was reached over a sponsorship dispute.

The $20 million ($11.8 million) match between England and a Stanford All-Star XI was thrown into doubt after an arbitrator ruled that Digicel, who are the official headlines sponsors of the West Indies cricket team, were not getting the exposure specified in their contract.

It was stated that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) would be in breach of their contract with Digicel if they allowed what is effectively their one-day team, under the moniker of the 'Stanford All-Stars', to compete in the one-off match.

However, in a statement the major benefactor of the event, Sir Allen Stanford, revealed a compromise had been achieved "after a series of extremely productive discussions".

"I am pleased with both parties' solution-orientated approach and most importantly that this matter has been finally resolved," Stanford said.

"We look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to the Stanford Cricket Ground to enjoy a fantastic week of cricket."

The match itself will take place on November 1st, with each player on the winning side earning $1 million (£593,000).

The remainder of the proceeds will be split between the rest of the 15-man squad, the management, the WICB and the England and Wales Cricket Board.
