Sussex lift Pro-40 title after thriller against Outlaws
14/09/2008
Sussex have won the Pro40 Division One title after a last-ball win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Outlaws posted 226-7 with Samit Patel top-scoring with 78 while James Kirtley finished with 3-39.
In reply Murray Goodwin hit an unbeaten 87 off 64 balls, including a six off the final ball, to seal victory for the Sharks by two wickets.
Michael Yardy earlier hit 53 before becoming the first of Patel's three wickets while fellow spinner Graeme Swann also had three dismissals to his name.
Elsewhere, Steve Harmison lead Durham to a five-wicket win over Gloucestershire at the Riverside.
The England paceman took 3-32 as the Gladiators were skittled out for 119 with just three players reaching double figures.
The Dynamos, who finish the season in third place, passed their paltry target with more than 13 overs to spare thanks to Michael Di Venuto making 52 not out.
Elsewhere, Somerset defeated Lancashire by three wickets at Liverpool.
After being put into bat, Lancashire were all out for 156 with Glenn Chapple starring with an unbeaten 33.
The Sabres reached their target with two balls to spare with Arul Suppiah making 33 while Carl Gazzard hit an unbeaten 30.
Elsewhere, Middlesex finish the season rock-bottom despite an 11-run win over Worcestershire at Kidderminster.
The Crusaders set 254 to win thanks to an opening stand of 107 between Billy Godleman (48) and Ed Joyce (99).
Worcestershire were bowled out for 242 in their chase despite an unbeaten 107 from veteran Graeme Hick.
The defeat for Worcestershire means they face a relegation playoff against Glamorgan.
