Tendulkar to sit out start of one-day series with England

05/11/2008

The BCCI have announced that Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar will miss the first three matches of the one-day series against England in November.

Tendulkar requested the time off to rest due to the amount of cricket he has played recently.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed with the 35-year-old, however, he will be available for the final four games of the seven-match series.

Commenting on the decision to omit Tendulkar, BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan, said: "Considering the hectic schedule ahead and the amount of cricket he has already played this season, Sachin Tendulkar requested that he be rested for the first three ODIs."

Tendulkar has played a full part in the Test series against Australia and is due to play in the upcoming fourth Test tomorrow.

Despite not making a century during the series he has averaged 55 in six innings and also passed Brian Lara's record for most runs in Test matches.

Tendulkar's one-day career began in 1989 and he has since played in 417 ODIs. He already has the record for most ODI runs with 16,361.

However, the Little Master has not played for India's one-day side since facing Australia in March.

A groin injury ruled him out of against series with Pakistan and Bangladesh while and elbow problem stopped him from facing Sri Lanka in the summer.

The decision to rest Tendulkar for the start of the one-day series suggests both the player and the Indian board have an eye on the Test series with England in December.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18861501-ADNFCR
