Trescothick rules out England comeback
24/09/2008
Former England opener Marcus Trescothick has ruled out a return to the international fold, saying he wants to concentrate on county cricket.
The Somerset batsman has previously refused to close the international chapter of his career when interviewed on the subject - prompting suggestions he would consider a return to the Test team for the 2009 Ashes.
Earlier this month Trescothick revealed that new captain Kevin Pietersen had been trying to persuade him to return, after succeeding in coaxing fast bowler Steve Harmison out of one-day international retirement.
However, the 32-year-old insisted he would not tour with England again for fear that a mental condition which cut short previous trips would flare up again and has now also rubbished suggestions he may play in any future series on home soil.
"I've finished from internationals and that's all done and dusted," Trescothick insisted.
"I'm enjoying myself at the moment playing my county cricket as much as I can do.
"As much county cricket as I can play over the next few years is good for me."
Trescothick's commitment to Somerset's cause comes at an important time for the county.
The team are in with a chance of securing their first ever championship title this week - lying second in Division One going into their final fixture with strugglers Lancashire at Taunton, which starts today.
