Twenty20 Champions League decision delayed
06/08/2008
The International Cricket Council (ICC) have chosen to delay the decision of whether to officially sanction the proposed Twenty20 Champions League.
The ICC have previously backed plans for the tournament but there still needs to be an agreement for when the tournament can be staged.
At the moment the proposed dates for the new competition are between 29th September and 8th October, and are likely to be held at various venues across India.
However, the start of the tournament clashes with the end of the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan which is due to end on 27tn September.
Current ICC rules dictate that there must be at least seven days between official ICC events, leaving the Champions League organisers searching for new dates for the competition.
Following a meeting between the ICC and its member boards, the governing body agreed to let the organisers - from India, Australia and South Africa have time to find a new set of dates so the ICC can sanction the event.
A statement from the ICC said: "The Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa offered to explore, with the ICCs management, the scheduling of the tournament.
"This offer was accepted unanimously by the ICC Board. It was also agreed those Members would report back to the ICC Board within seven days."
England will be represented at the tournament by Middlesex, who won the recent domestic Twenty20 trophy, but runners-up Kent have been banned because they fielded players who had participated in the rebel Indian Cricket League earlier this year.
