Twenty20 Champions League put back to December
14/08/2008
The inaugural Twenty20 Champions League has been delayed by three months to December, it was announced today.
The cricket boards of India, Australia and South Africa made the announcement after the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), requested it be put back.
It will now take place between December 3rd and December 10th this year, over three months after the initial start date of September 29th.
That is just one day after the ICC Champions' Trophy final in Pakistan.
"While the Champions League Twenty20 is a domestic tournament not affected by ICC event rules, we have agreed to the ICC request as a gesture of goodwill," a statement from organisers said.
Middlesex will represent England at the tournament, which will also feature Rajasthan and Chennai from India, Victoria and Western Australia from Australia, the Titans and Dolphins from South Africa and Pakistan's reigning champions Sialkot.
Cricket itineraries have had to be reshuffled as a result of the move. Cricket Australia has delayed the start of the first Test between its national side and South Africa by five days to December 17th.
England are touring India during the new tournament dates, which fall between the one-day series finishing on December 2nd and the Test series starting on December 11th.
