Vaughan determined to regain England place
05/10/2008
Former England captain Michael Vaughan says he is determined to earn his place back in the Test side ahead of next year's Ashes series.
Vaughan insists the rumours about him going to Australia in the winter to work as a television pundit are not true and that he is currently working out how to recapture his best form.
The Yorkshireman says the responsibility of captaining Yorkshire would not allow him to focus enough on his own game.
Instead the 33-year-old hopes to get a place on the England Lions tour to India and force his way in to the reckoning for a place on the tour of the West Indies in March.
Writing in the Sunday Telegraph Vaughan said: "I'm going to dedicate the next year to getting back into the England team.
"I'm giving myself until November 10th to decide my best way back. To be the best player I can be my decision making has to be spot-on, and I felt recently I was making some wrong decisions as captain and a batsman.
"The hunger is still there all right - I'm mad to get back into the England team."
Vaughan feels he will benefit from a small break, as Andrew Strauss did before the tour of New Zealand earlier this year and thinks he can bounce back in a similar way.
The Yorkshireman knows that when his next chance in the England side comes along there will be no room for error.
He said: "The next opportunity I get to establish myself in the England side will probably be my last, so if and when I do get back, I'll have to score runs immediately."
Vaughan says he has the backing of coach Peter Moores and chief selector Geoff Miller and believes he will be given every opportunity to prove himself over the next year.
