Vaughan to tour with England Performance squad
11/11/2008
Former senior captain Michael Vaughan has been named in the 17-man England Performance squad for the winter tour of India.
Yorkshire batsman Vaughan, who is searching for a recall to the senior Test team, will join spinner Monty Panesar in the development squad in a bid to improve his form.
The England selectors have confirmed that the 33-year-old will not be considered for selection for either of the two Test matches against India this winter after missing out on the original squad announcement.
However, he could be in contention for the tour of the West Indies in early 2009 and will look to regain some form on the sub-continent to justify his award of a 12-month central contract for 2008/09 in September.
Vaughan's successor as England captain, Kevin Pietersen, said: "It's good because it gives us strength in depth to have a guy like that around with his experience.
"He's coming back into the fold now and has his head back on - and he's willing to do whatever it takes to get back into the England team, which is great."
The England Performance squad fly to Bangalore on November 21st for a three-day match before moving onto Mumbai for a four-day game.
They will also train with the England Test squad on December 17th and 18th before flying home on the 19th - the first day of the second Test match of the main tour.
