Warne accepts coaching role
26/12/2007
Shane Warne has accepted a role with Cricket Australia (CA) which will see him mentor the country's top spin bowlers.
Warne will also take on responsibilities for helping to improve playing conditions and developing the game in Australia.
CA announced that the spinner had accepted a 'leadership in cricket' role with the board before the first day's play of Australia's Boxing Day Test against India.
The 38-year-old will work with young spinners in Australia and their state captains to ensure the players develop and are being used in the right way.
Warne said: "I'm really excited to work with Cricket Australia and give back to the game. The work I'm going to be doing with young spinners and their state captains is a really important role and I believe I've got a lot to offer."
The Hampshire captain will also spend some time coaching at CA's centre of excellence, working with all of Australia's representational sides from the first XI through to the youth squads.
He will also be brought in to advise the under-19 side before the ICC under-19 World Cup in 2008.
"I've already had some contact with some youngsters around the country but to be able to work in a structured way with spin bowlers and their captains will hopefully give teams an even greater understanding of how to develop spin bowling talent," said Warne.
The spinner's other job will be to work along side Allan Border and Mark Taylor in an advisory role on the playing conditions committee which makes recommendations to the ICC.
