Warwickshire beat Leicestershire in Pro40
29/07/2008
Warwickshire comfortably beat Leicestershire by 81 runs in their Pro40 Division Two match at Grace Road.
Neil Carter hit 78 from 55 balls, including 10 fours and five sixes, and Darren Maddy scored 56 off 42 against his former side to help Warwickshire to a total of 276-7 from their 40 overs.
Carter got the visitors off to a flying start with his quick-fire 78 after Warwickshire won the toss and decided to bat.
He shared an opening stand of 91 with Jonathan Trott.
Maddy and Jim Troughton, with 48, put on 96 for the third wicket as Warwickshire posted a score that was going to be extremely difficult for Leicestershire to catch.
Left-arm spinner Claude Henderson took 4-42 for the hosts.
When it was their turn to bat, Leicestershire struggled to keep up with the run rate and lost regular wickets as they attempted to make up the ground.
Jim Allenby was their top-scorer with 39 as they slumped to 195 all out.
Ant Botha was the star bowler for Warwickshire with figures of 5-43, but the off-spinner just missed out on a hat-trick.
