Woods' lead cut after unspectacular second day in Dubai

Tiger Woods' lead of the Dubai Desert Classic has been cut to just one shot after he carded a one-under-par round on a tough second day.

Many of the leaders struggled to recreate their excellent first-round performances, with the best score of the day being a 68 from France's Jean-Baptiste Gonnet.

Woods carded a seven-under-par 65 on day one, but could manage no better than a 71 on day two.

Ireland's Damien McGrane moved into second place on the leaderboard with a second-round 69 to add to his first-round score of 68, overtaking the 11-player field who had been joint second overnight.

Of those 11, Frenchman Thomas Levet remains closest to Woods after scoring 71 and he sits joint third with Sweden's Henrik Stenson.

England's Ross Fisher and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell find themselves in a seven-man group three shots off the lead on five under par.

World number five Ernie Els is still in contention despite failing to break par in his second round.

England's Lee Westwood is joint 12th on four under par and within touching distance of the leaders, as is Ian Poulter, although he had another uninspiring day at just one under par.

Finally, 18-year-old Rory McIlroy endured a tough second day as he slumped to a five-over-par round of 77 and looks likely to miss the cut, despite a three-under-par first round.
