Wright and Sidebottom miss out on England warm up

08/11/2008

All-rounder Luke Wright and seamer Ryan Sidebottom have both been left out of the England squad for the first warm up game ahead of the one-day series with India.

England have recalled James Anderson for the match after he was left out of the team that lost comprehensively to the Stanford Superstars in Antigua last weekend.

Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara is the other change to that side, coming in for Wright who did not bowl during the game and made only one run with the bat.

Spinner Graeme Swann retains his place in the side as England look to see if they should play both him and Samit Patel in the full team in the first one-day international.

England will face the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) tomorrow and the 12-a-side match will allow them some flexibility to assess as many batsmen and bowlers as possible.

Coach Peter Moores is particularly keen to get his batsmen in good form ahead of the series with India.

Having slumped to 99 all out in Antigua it is understandable that Moores would want to see some improvements.

He said: "All the players will play their part, but I still think the key will be to get consistent runs.

"To be successful in one-day cricket, our batting is going to have to fire."

The other players in the squad that missed out on selection were batsman Alastair Cook and wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose.

England's second warm up will be against the MCA on Tuesday before the first one-day international in Rajkot on Friday.

England Team: Ian Bell, Matt Prior (wkt), Owais Shah, Kevin Pietersen (captain), Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood, Ravi Bopara, Samit Patel, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Steve Harmison, James Anderson.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18866235-ADNFCR
