Yousuf's Pakistan future in doubt after ICL move
05/11/2008
Pakistan have suspended batsman Mohammad Yousuf from the national team after he signed up to the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a zero-tolerance policy regarding its cricketers that are lured by the ICL's riches.
And it appears Yousuf, 34, could join former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in being frozen out after signing a deal with the tournament organisers.
"[While] he is contracted to the ICL he cannot play for, or in, Pakistan," said PCB director of operations Zakir Khan.
After it emerged the talented middle-order man was in Delhi for talks yesterday, the PCB put batsmen Khalid Latif and Khurrum Manzoor on standby to replace Yousuf in their latest 15-man squad, named this week.
Pakistan are set to face the West Indies over three one-day internationals in Abu Dhabi later this month.
Yousuf has scored 6,770 runs at an average of 55.49 for Pakistan in 79 Tests.
His ODI average is 43.18.
