Biker gang jailed over motorway killing
28/11/2008
Seven members of a biker gang have been jailed for life after being convicted of murdering a Hells Angel on the M40 motorway last year.
Gerry Tobin, 35, was shot dead near junction 12 of the M40 in Warwickshire on August 12th 2007.
This week six men were found guilty of murder by a jury at Birmingham crown court. On Friday the court ruled each of the men should serve minimum terms of between 25 and 30 years.
The prosecution claimed that although Sean Creighton, 44, and Simon Turner, 41, fired the shots that killed Mr Tobin, the other men all played a part in the "cold-blooded, premeditated, almost military plan".
Creighton, from Coventry, pleaded guilty to murder and firearm offences ahead of the trial of the six other men and was described as the president of the south Warwickshire Outlaws gang.
Yesterday Karl Garside, 45, and Ian Cameron, 46, both from Coventry, were found guilty of murder.
Earlier this week Turner and three other men - Dean Taylor, 47, from Coventry, Malcolm Bull, 53, from Milton Keynes, and Dane Garside, 42 were also found guilty of murder.
During their trial the court heard that as Mr Tobin rode down the M40 motorway last August a Rover car pulled alongside him and two bullets were fired.
A subsequent post-mortem gave Mr Tobin's cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
