Labour councillor shot with crossbow
25/11/2008
A Labour councillor in Slough has been shot with a crossbow, police have revealed.
Joginder Bal is believed to have been ambushed by a gang outside his home in Berkshire on Sunday evening.
Reports suggest that Mr Bal is suffering an arm injury but is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
Thames Valley police Detective Inspector Tony Padfield said: "The exact circumstances of the incident are still being established, and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
The gang are believed to have waited outside his home in a car on the evening of the attack.
He was later found by police, bleeding on the ground.
A council spokesman said: "Everyone here is extremely distressed to hear about the attack.
"We wish Councillor Bal a rapid recovery and our thoughts are with his family."
The prominent Sikh councillor in his 50s, has been deputy mayor of Slough borough council since May.
He is currently being treated in Wexham Park Hospital.
