Primary schools in line for rebuilding boost
12/11/2008
Primary schools in England are expected to receive funding for refurbishment and rebuilding work later today.
Children's secretary Ed Balls will unveil details of the government's primary capital programme, which seeks to improve half of all primary schools by 2022/23.
Around £1.75 billion is expected to be announced today, allowing the construction of over 350 primary schools, the BBC reports.
"This is a once-in-a-generation chance to transform primary education in every part of the country - to sweep away buildings now reaching the end of their shelf life and drive up the quality of our schools," Mr Balls said.
"Schools are now being revolutionised by the biggest, sustained capital investment for 50 years - benefiting every single primary, secondary, academy and special school in England."
