Beyonce stumps up $1m for Katrina Appeal
08/11/2005
Pop diva Beyonce Knowles has shown her generous side by pledging $1 million to the Hurricane Katrina appeal.
The Destiny's Child superstar, along with her mother Tina and band-mate Kelly Rowland, has donated the sums through the Knowles family's Survivor Foundation.
A number of organisations dealing with homelessness in Texas, including St John's Downtown, will receive substantial donations via this foundation.
Pastor of St John's Downtown, Rudy Rasmus, welcomed the news and praised the generosity of Beyonce and her family.
"This is truly a blessing in our attempt to add transitional living opportunities for the men, women and families that we have strived to care for over the years," he said.
"I've known the Knowles family for many years and this is a true reflection of their generosity and humanitarian spirit."
Katrina devastated New Orleans and killed nearly 1,200 people in September this year.
