Concert rocks Liverpool arena
13/01/2008
A musical extravaganza took place in Liverpool last night to mark the opening of the city's new Echo arena.
The inauguration of the concert venue is part of the beginning of Liverpool's Capital of Culture year which will see it host hundreds of music, art and cultural events over 2008.
The new £164 million Echo Arena played host to a range of stars last night with Ringo Starr and a host of local acts entertaining the crowd. The Liverpool Beatles star played his former band's hit With A Little Help From My Friends as well as a cover of John Lennon's Power to the People at the show.
Concertgoers were also treated to the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Liverpool Welsh Choir and other local acts such as No Fakin DJs and the Valley Brass Band.
Local favourites Echo and the Bunnymen also performed for the 10-000 plus crowd which was treated to songs from up-and-coming local performers such as The Wombats.
The show, entitled Liverpool - The Musical, showcased the city's past and future through a film which was shown on a transparent layer.
