Fans pore over final Harry Potter book jackets
28/03/2007
The covers for the seventh Harry Potter novel have been released amid feverish anticipation of JK Rowling's final hurrah in the series.
Two covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have been released, one each for the adult and children's edition, with fans already scrutinising the images for clues about the eventual fate of the eponymous hero.
Readers of the heptalogy are eager to know whether Harry will survive the denouement, with author JK Rowling admitting that two characters will die in the final novel.
However little is given away in the covers, with the adult version simply depicting a glittering 's' on a pendant.
A little more is seen in the children's version, with Harry and his two friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, showing fearful expressions as the young wizard lunges over a pile of coins and treasure.
The covers will be used across the world, except for the US where Scholastic US has prepared a separate cover.
With the final book set for release on July 21st, Bloomsbury is set for an avalanche of demand.
Online retailer Amazon says it has already broken the 100,000 pre-order barrier for the book, which is expected to break all manner of publishing records.
In total the Harry Potter series has sold more than 300 million books.
