Supermodel Naomi Campbell hospitalised in Brazil for cyst
27/02/2008
Naomi Campbell has been admitted to a hospital in Sao Paolo, Brazil, for the removal of a cyst.
The supermodel was taken to the Sirio Libanes hospital on Sunday night, it has been confirmed, though gynaecologist Dr Jose Aristodemo Pinotti would not confirm the nature of the 37-year-old's condition.
"I cannot reveal what Naomi had, nor how serious her condition was, but I can say I operated on her yesterday, that everything went smoothly and that she is completely cured and walking in her room," he was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.
"She came to Brazil to be treated for a condition I am not authorised to reveal," he added.
However, the model's publicist Jeff Raymond has since issued a statement confirming the condition for which Campbell was admitted.
"Naomi Campbell was admitted to hospital... to have a small cyst removed. Following the successful procedure, she is now resting and looking forward to getting back to work. She would like to thank the doctors who have kindly looked after her," he said.
An additional statement from the Sirio Libanes hospital said that Campbell was being cared for by David Uip, one of Brazil's leading experts on infection diseases.
It added that "the patient and her advisers have determined that the hospital's medical staff will not issue any formal or informal information on her medical condition".
Campbell, a frequent visitor to Brazil, celebrated the carnival in the north-eastern city of Salvador earlier this month.
