Unique Harry Potter books to be auctioned
17/09/2007
A unique set of Harry Potter books signed by author JK Rowling are set to go under the hammer in a charity auction.
Books Abroad believes that the complete set of seven books will fetch at least £20,000 when made available on internet auction site eBay next Monday.
"No other complete set of signed Harry Potter books is available in the world at the moment," the Aberdeenshire charity said.
Books Abroad, which is marking its 25th anniversary next week with a fundraising ball, provides books for schoolchildren across the world.
Claire Newman, development officer at the charity, said: "Through her Huntly connections JK Rowling knows of the work of Books Abroad.
"Although she cannot attend our 25th anniversary in person, she was very keen to support us. We are very grateful to her for this generous contribution to our fundraising efforts."
The Harry Potter literary series was drawn to a close with the release of the seventh and final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows earlier this summer.
An estimated 350 million books have been sold since 1997, while the film adaptations of the novels were recently declared the most successful movie franchise of all time after making £2.2 billion at the global box office.
The final two films in the series Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows are not scheduled to be released until 2008 and 2010 respectively.
