Gervais reveals new Extras draft

19/11/2008

Ricky Gervais has admitted he has drafted an hour-long Extras special, which centres on his character Andy Millman trying to make it in Hollywood.

The comedian, who is now known across the world for his hit series the Office as well as its critically acclaimed follow-up Extras, told This Morning that a new project is in the offing.

Extras hit screens two years ago and ran for two series before last year's Christmas special, which appeared to bring the curtain down on the sitcom.

But after being pressed on his upcoming work, Gervais admitted to having drafted a "rough" storyline for the special.

"We said we probably wouldn't but we never said never - like we did with the Office," he said.

"I miss Extras more than the Office and also, I think [Extras] has got more legs because we can go anywhere with it.

"We never ended it like the Office, it was quite open-ended."

Gervais is famed for his ability to attract some of the movie industry's top stars to Extras, including the likes of Orlando Bloom, Ben Stiller and Robert de Niro.

And he revealed he has plans for a similarly star-studded lineup for the new special.

"I've got my sights set on a few people, like Al Pacino I've got a good idea for," he said.

"I bumped into Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas at the [Joe] Calzaghe fight in New York and I said, 'do you want to do Extras?'

"[DeVito] went 'yeah', so that's legally binding."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18885473-ADNFCR
