Sienna Miller wins £35k damages over privacy claims

11/11/2008

Two tabloid newspapers are to pay Sienna Miller a total of £35,000 in damages over claims they breached her privacy.

The Stardust actress launched an action against the Sun and News of the World over a set of "intrusive articles and photos" published in June and July.

And an out-of-court settlement was approved on Monday by a senior high court official in London, said Miller's solicitor Mark Thomson.

News Group Newspapers, the publisher of both tabloids, is to pay damages as well as giving appropriate undertakings and agreeing to pay the Layer Cake star's costs.

Mr Thomson confirmed Tom Crone, the senior lawyer for News Group, had sent a letter to Miller on behalf of the newspapers.

It read: "I refer to your legal claim against News Group Newspapers, the publishers of the Sun and the News of the World, that was issued in July of this year.

"We have now had an opportunity to look into this matter. We acknowledge that on the specific facts and circumstances of this case you had a reasonable expectation of privacy in respect of the information and the photographs that we published in the Sun and the News of the World.

"We also accept that we should not have published such information or such photographs."

The 26-year-old actress is still pursuing various claims against photo agency Big Pictures.

She accepted £15,000 in damages in an out-of-court settlement against the Daily Star newspaper in September over a paparazzi photograph.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18868710-ADNFCR
