Strong showing for Brits at European Film Awards

08/11/2008

Several British stars have received nominations at this year's European Film Awards in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Kristin Scott Thomas has been nominated as best actress for her role in I've Loved You So Long, while James McAvoy is in the running for best actor for Atonement.

Sally Hawkins, star of Mike Leigh's film Happy Go Lucky, is also up for the Best Actress trophy, while the film itself has been nominated for Best Film.

Steve McQueen, the Turner Prize-winning artist, has also received a nod for directing Hunger.

Other rivals for the Best Film award are Italian crime thriller Gomorrah and French drama The Class.

Last year, the ceremony was held in Berlin, where Helen Mirren won Best Actress for her performance in The Queen. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18866257-ADNFCR
