Taylor-Wood to direct Lennon biopic

29/08/2008

Sam Taylor-Wood is to direct a film about John Lennon's teenage years, reports claim.

The artist will be joined by Control writer Matt Greenhalgh in making Nowhere Boy, a look at the former Beatle's first brushes with fame.

Screen Daily quotes Taylor-Wood as saying: "I knew as I closed the final page that this was the film I had been looking to direct.

"The story spoke to me on so many levels - both personal and artistic."

It is believed that the film will focus on the role Lennon's aunt and mother played in his early life.

"The women in John's early life truly shaped who he became, and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film," Taylor-Wood added.

The film is to be shot on location in Lennon's home city of Liverpool.

Greenhalgh won a Bafta for his screenplay of Control, a film about Joy Division front man, Ian Curtis.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18755766-ADNFCR
