Alonso: I will help Massa win
13/10/2008
Fernando Alonso has said that he will help Ferrari's Felipe Massa win this year's world championship.
Considerable bad blood developed between Alonso and Britain's Lewis Hamilton last year when they were team-mates at McLaren.
Speaking after winning back-to-back races this weekend, the Spaniard said he would be backing Brazil's Massa over Hamilton, implying he still planned on playing a role in the outcome of this year's competition.
"Yes, no doubt, if I can help, I will help Massa," Alonso told the AS newspaper.
The two-time world champion said that the championship leaders had made too many mistakes so far this season and the eventual winner would be the one who managed to make the fewest number of slip-ups in the remaining races.
"They have lost a lot of points. After 16 races the leader has 84 points. In 2006 I had 82 in nine races," he added.
"In this championship the drivers who are up there have scored few points. But in the end the one who makes the least errors will win. We'll see."
Hamilton currently holds a five point lead over Massa with two races remaining.
