16-year-old arrested in 'Scream' firework crime
11/12/2007
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an incident that took place in October when an individual wearing a Scream-style mask set off an industrial-strength firework in a small Bolton shop.
Greater Manchester Police have said the teenager is being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Two men, aged 22 and 18, have already been arrested over the incident but have been bailed until later this month.
The incident occurred on October 29th at 21:30 GMT in the California Wines shop on Tonge Moor Road and CCTV footage shows the offender dropping the Annihilator 500 Shot Repeater and running away as the first of 500 rockets began exploding.
The shopkeeper, whose 15-month-old son was in the shop and suffered from smoke inhalation, managed to kick the firework out of the door.
Oldham, Manchester and Salford were recently named in a BBC investigation as some of the worst firework accident hotspots in the country.
