Affordable housing to open
04/06/2007
Some 26 new houses were opened by William Sutton Homes in Manchester to mark Neighbours' Day.
The affordable homes in Collin Avenue and Grisedale Road were part of a £15-million regeneration plan at Gorton in a bid to make the area cleaner and greener.
The event as well as offering the conclusion to the project also aimed at encouraging neighbours to get to know each others better with children from the area teaming up to plant bulbs in newly-landscaped areas funded by Manchester City Council.
The bungalows and larger family houses, now surrounded with new parking areas and freshly planted trees on Wembley Road, will be offered for an affordable rent or affordable outright sale.
Chief executive of William Sutton Homes Paul Eastwood and Keith Exford, of Affinity Sutton Group which owns the former, had lunch with residents at the Sunny Brow sheltered scheme.
William Sutton Homes owns and manages some 400 high-quality affordable houses in Gorton as part of a phased redevelopment of the area.
Further redevelopment has been scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2008 on Levenshulme Road.
