Airport passengers help themselves
28/07/2006
Manchester Airport passengers could avoid lengthy queues at the terminal, due to a new faster self-service check-in system.
This is the first time passengers of any airline will be able to benefit from the speedier checking-in process at a large UK airport.
The new systems, Common User Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks, allow airport visitors to scan their own passports and print their own boarding cards, before dropping their luggage off at fast-bag drop-off points.
A total of ten airlines, across Manchester, Nottingham East Midland and Humberside airports, have already signalled their intentions to help quicken up the check-in process, by signing-up for the new technology.
Geoff Muirhead, MAG's [Manchester Airport Group] chief executive, said: "The installation of CUSS heralds a new era for check-in and shows that MAG is maintaining its reputation as an industry leader in customer service."
Many airports have self-service facilities, but they are restricted to one airline. British Airways at Gatwick Airport in the south-east is one example of this.
