Another minor quake hits Manchester
30/08/2007
Manchester has been shaken by an earthquake and it is the sixth one to hit the city this month.
The minor earth tremor, measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale, was felt in the city centre just after 05:45 BST. There have been no reports of injuries or damage to property.
At 11:50 BST on August 10th, an earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale shook central and south-east Greater Manchester. Two weeks later a 'swarm' of small tremors occurred.
"All these events locate in the same region as a series of 150 events which occurred between October 2002 and January 2003," said the British Geological Survey.
"The largest event in that series, with a magnitude of 3.9, occurred on October 21st 2002 and was felt throughout the region."
According to geologists, there were more than 100 minor earthquakes in Manchester between October 2002 and January 2003.
