Bolton Station renovation to go ahead
24/10/2006
Transport chiefs in Greater Manchester have said the renovation of Bolton's train station will go ahead.
It was recently revealed by Bolton News that a £2 million proposal to improve the station was postponed despite concern over the state of the platforms.
However, the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) has decided to press ahead with the plans, although at a much cheaper cost, reports the newspaper.
A consultation study is being commissioned to work out how to modernise the station's concourse and platforms. And up to £30,000 has been put aside for refurbishment of the clock tower.
"The railway station at Bolton Interchange is one of the busiest in the north-west and we share passengers' desire for major improvements," councillor and GMPTA chair Roger Jones told the paper.
In related news, a £1 million bus station is to be built in Radcliffe to replace the current 1980s structure.
Bury Council and the GMPTA are jointly funding the project.
