Bolton selected for culture experiment
30/05/2008
Bolton is the only Greater Manchester borough to have been selected as a pilot area for the government's programme to expose young people to five hours of culture a week.
The 'Find Your Talent' scheme aims to give young people the chance to encounter a range of "high-quality cultural experiences" for five hours a week.
Museums, theatres and local arts organisations will work in partnership with schools in Bolton.
Culture Secretary and Leigh MP Andy Burnham said: "Find Your Talent is a really exciting initiative that could transform children's lives.
"Engaging with culture is not a luxury, or an add-on, for young people. It matters in its own right, and can be a way of developing essential life skills like communication, creativity and team working."
Bolton is one of ten locations that have been selected. The others include Liverpool, Tower Hamlets and Leeds.
The government says that it hopes to improve quality of life by providing people with the chance to get involved with a variety of cultural and sporting activities.
