Bury Metrolink line reopened
13/09/2007
The Bury to Manchester Metrolink line has reopened following months of repair work.
Sections of worn-out track have been replaced, platforms have undergone refurbishment and ticket machines have been upgraded.
A local transport spokesman, Michael Renshaw, said: "Some of the track we've replaced was more than 50-years-old and I'm sure passengers will notice the difference the new track makes.
"Tram journeys on the Bury line will now be much smoother, quieter and more reliable."
At the end of last month, the Altrincham tram link re-opened after weeks of refurbishments.
Other improvements to Metrolink include the provision of extra trams and the creation of new lines to Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and Chorlton.
According to local transport chiefs, passengers make 55,000 journeys on Metrolink every day, amounting to some 20 million a year.
