Cathedral to host BBC Philharmonic
29/11/2007
The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra's brass quintet has been invited to perform at Salford Cathedral in the first week of December.
Hosted by Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the free carol service will also feature children from local schools.
There will be readings by the mayor of Salford, the Chief Superintendent of the GMP and council representatives.
Richard Wigley, general manager of the BBC Philharmonic, said: "We were really pleased to be asked to join in the music making at the carol service.
"It will be the perfect opportunity for the people of Salford to enjoy the playing of some of our musicians alongside the performances from local people."
The service begins at 19:30 GMT on December 5th and tickets can be booked by telephoning the council.
In September, Salford agreed to sponsor the BBC Philharmonic in a £20 million deal, which will see the orchestra move its base to the new media city at Salford Quays.
The orchestra, which is now branded with the phrase, 'Making music IN Salford', will carry the city's logo around the world.
