Chief Constable falls prey to thieves again
05/09/2007
A Manchester police chief has had his briefcase stolen from the boot of his car.
Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police Mike Todd also lost a uniform and a baton to the thieves, who struck outside his city centre apartment.
This is not the first time the chief constable has been the target of thieves. Five years ago, electrical equipment was taken from his flat.
A police spokesman said: "At about 2315 BST on Monday, a car being used by the chief constable was broken into in a Manchester city centre car park.
"The briefcase contained papers and personal items. There were no items of a personal or a sensitive nature stolen and no laptop computer was stolen."
Mr Todd has been Chief Constable in Greater Manchester since 2002 when he took over from David Wilmott.
He previously served as an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police.
