Classic rock station to be launched in May
21/09/2007
A new radio station is to be launched in Greater Manchester next May and will be aimed at men aged over 35.
To be broadcast by Guardian Media Group (GMG) Radio, 106.1 Rock Radio will be a classic rock programme featuring the likes of the Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin.
GMG Radio, which is already responsible for Smooth FM and Century, has appointed Smooth's Joe Radcliffe to manage the new radio station.
Mr Radcliffe said: "Rock Radio will provide the region with an exciting new station, giving listeners a combination of music and talk not currently available to them.
"As a rock fan myself, I'm looking forward to launching Manchester's first classic rock station."
The imminent launch of a new Greater Manchester radio station follows Ofcom's decision to award GMG Radio a new licence in February 2007.
GMG Radio has 11 stations across the country and claims to have the largest regional radio footprint in the UK.
