Corrie's Ashley apologies for unexplained absence

10/07/2007

Steven Arnold, who plays butcher Ashley Peacock in long-running soap Coronation Street, has apologised after he failed to turn up for work last week.

Filming had to be stopped and actors sent home when the star did not come to the set on Friday.

It has been reported that Arnold had attended a family party the night before filming was due to take place and did not come to work because he was hung over.

A driver was sent to pick up Arnold on Friday but the actor was not at home and was not answering his mobile phone.

"We couldn't raise him or find him all Friday and Saturday," a spokeswoman said. "I don't know if he was ill or unaware he was needed for filming.

"He has never done it before and I am sure he won't do it again."

A Coronation Street source has said that the actor has received a warning over his actions and has now said sorry to the rest of the cast and crew.

It is thought that Arnold faces possible suspension because of the inconvenience caused and the financial loss incurred by the producers.

This is not the first time that a Coronation Street actor has been in the news due to off-set antics.

At the end May, actor Bruce Jones, who played loudmouth Les Battersby left the soap after the News of the World alleged he made a drunken rant at a restaurant in Stockport.
