Duerr's creates new scent with Irwell water
31/08/2006
A Manchester jam and marmalade maker has created a new fragrance by mixing water from the river Irwell with Seville oranges.
Duerr's unisex scent is called L'eau de Marmalade and has overtones of spicy cinnamon with a hint of citrus.
The jam maker hopes that by using Manchester river water, the perfume's reputation will stay rooted in the city-region.
Richard Duerr, director of marketing for Duerr's, told the Bolton Evening News: "We have been creating marmalade for 125 years and have always used the finest oranges from Seville.
"There has always been an association between taste and smell and L'eau de Marmalade incorporates these two senses and the fragrance really captures the smell of Seville."
Duerr's, which has had a member of the Duerr family at the helm since its foundation, exports products to over 30 different countries.
Prestage Street in Old Trafford has been home to Duerr's since 1890.
