Forensic fraudster guilty of deception
21/02/2007
A Greater Manchester man who fraudulently worked as a forensic psychologist for nearly three decades has been convicted of 20 charges of deception.
Gene Morrison, 48, from Hyde, left school with no qualifications but gave evidence in court in several hundred cases, most of which will have to be re-assessed to rule out the possibility of miscarriages of justice.
Reports produced by Mr Morrison were found to have been copied and pasted from internet sources.
The court heard that he told officers he had begun an Open University degree in forensic or social psychology but admitted he only phoned them for a brochure.
He has been convicted of offences include perverting the course of justice, perjury and obtaining property and a money transfer by deception after a four-week trial at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.
The jury has yet to decide whether Mr Morrison is guilty on a single count of intending to pervert the course of justice and another of attempting to obtain property by deception.
