'GMP making the streets better'
19/05/2006
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are aiming to "put respect back on the streets" of the city, according to Chief Superintendent Neil Wain.
Mr Wain was speaking after GMP announced that they had targeted 2,689 people over the last three months in a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.
The BBC reports that the force is pleased with the results of the campaign and will be continuing with a similar policy this summer.
During the drive to cut down on anti-social behaviour, a total of 826 bottles of alcohol were taken from people under the legal drinking age of 18.
Chief Superintendent Wain told the BBC that there was a positive response from local communities.
He said: "This is not the end of the crackdown, it is just the start and we are 100 per cent committed to tackling and prosecuting those who insist on acting anti-socially and making people's lives a misery."
The GMP is currently asking Greater Manchester residents to fill in an online survey, which asks how the force can improve its service to the community.
