Gang members sent back to prison
22/08/2007
Two gang members in Manchester have been returned to prison after breaching the terms of their licence.
Colin David Joyce, 28, and Lee Amos, 31, were both jailed for nine years in 2001 for firearms offences.
Amos was released on licence last year, while Joyce was released on licence in March; however, both have failed to stick to the conditions set on their release.
Police officers apprehended Joyce on the A666 in Walkden, Salford on August 12th, while Amos was arrested on Sunday.
Chief Superintendent Dave Keller, from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), said: "The fact these two men have been returned to prison is incredibly significant. Everyone is aware of the recent spate of shootings in Manchester.
"We made a promise to the people of Manchester that we would relentlessly pursue those responsible for gun crime and these arrests represent a major step forward.
The arrests were part of an operation against gun crime called Silverstone, which ran alongside investigations by armed officers and unarmed officers in areas affected by gun crime.
Ch Supt Keller added: "There are no untouchables. We will pursue those who are involved in gun crime, apprehend them and bring them to justice. "
