Greater Manchester Traffic Officers celebrate first birthday
06/03/2007
Highways Agency Traffic Officers in Greater Manchester are celebrating their first birthday.
Drivers have welcomed the "magnificent" new service operating in Greater Manchester with congestion significantly reduced, according to the Highways Agency.
Figures from the Agency suggest that more than 6,000 incidents were tackled within the first year of officers working on Greater Manchester motorways.
Professional driver Michael Percy from Lincolnshire praised Traffic Officers who assisted him after a bitumen tanker broke down on the slip road at Birch Services on the M62.
"I can't thank or praise the two Traffic Officers enough. They were absolutely spot on and couldn't have done more for me.
"If it hadn't been for them I would have been stranded. Full marks for the Traffic Officer Service from me."
Traffic Officers assist in motor vehicle accidents, removing damaged and abandoned vehicles and undertaking high visibility patrols.
