Inquiry underway at Didsbury school after chemical incident
11/05/2007
A school in south Manchester was temporarily shut yesterday while dozens of pupils and staff underwent hospital treatment as the result of a chemical incident.
An investigation is now underway at Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury after emergency services were called in at 10:25 BST.
The school was immediately evacuated and more than 50 pupils and teachers were treated at the scene or taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with nausea, minor breathing difficulties and eye irritation.
Parrs Wood was temporarily evacuated while fire officers inspected the area, but an examination of the building did not reveal any immediate faults, according to Greater Manchester Police.
Students and teachers were allowed back into the school shortly before 12:00 BST.
It is thought the incident may have been caused by the fumes from a discharged CG gas canister.
