Jobs fair targets east Manchester's unemployed
10/04/2008
Over 2,000 unemployed people in east Manchester are being targeted by the organisers of a jobs fair at Manchester College of Arts and Technology next week.
Organised by Job Centre Plus and regeneration agency New East Manchester, the fair will include exhibitions by a range of enterprises including Barclays, the army, Royal Northern College of Music and esure.
Full and part-time jobs are on offer, as well as a mix of both skilled and unskilled opportunities.
Sean McGonigle, a director at New East Manchester, said: "This jobs fair is for anyone interested in getting a job or accessing information, advice and guidance.
"We anticipate a good attendance at this event which will help us reach our target of supporting residents into employment."
There are more than 2,200 unemployed people in east Manchester. In fact, unemployment in east Manchester is at 5.6 per cent, compared to 2.8 per cent in the UK as a whole, according to the city council.
In addition, 13.3 per cent of the working age population is on incapacity benefit, nearly three times higher than the England and Wales average.
The fair will take place from 11:00 BST until 15:00 BST on Tuesday April 15th at the Openshaw Campus on Ashton Old Road.
